I have cleared another acre of my property for food production, rigged up IBC containers to store rain water and set up an outdoor canning kitchen. I have many years worth of jars and lids, along with other canning supplies. I built a 12x16 greenhouse that basically gives me a 12-month growing season in Southern Maryland. I trade plant starts with my excellent neighbors, and barter the trees I cut to the neighbors for firewood or plain old goodwill. I shop at the local mom & pop building supply store to the exclusion of all the big-box stores - the high price of fuel has mitigated the small extra cost, since the local store is much closer. I get what I can from the roadside produce stands and farmers markets. The food we have been growing tastes better and makes us feel better. My wife and I have lost over 80 pounds between us, and we now take no medication even though we are in our 60's. I have been stockpiling ammo for years, and made a decent shooting lane to keep everybody up to snuff. If the power goes out, or we lose access to stores, we can survive on what we have for quite a while. We have strength in numbers, and a wide diversity of skills to help each other, and that's what we should do. When we have done all we can, we have God to see us through everything else. Doing nothing but praying for deliverance, is not a plan at all.
